Starting and running in the area between the castle, the Riksdaghuset and the Opera is special. And running in the middle of town is really a special feeling. The half marathon in Stockholm has been called Stockholm Halvmarathon (Stockholm Half Marathon) since 2007 but the race is actually much older. In 1927, the year the first Volvo car was produced and Charles Lindbergh flew non-stop across the Atlantic, was when Stockholmsloppet (Stockholm Race) was launched. The race was organised by athletic club Fredrikshof IF and the newspaper Stockholms Dagblad whose sports writer, Oscar Söderlund, came up with the idea of the competition. The first race started and finished in the Olympic Stadium, later editions used the open-air museum of Skansen and the national football stadium in Råsunda. Adequate lean protein. Eliminate as many processed foods from your diet as you can—think natural foods.Phase II of your training plan is to interject run intervals into your 60-minute walk. Walk for 3 minutes, then run for 30 seconds and repeat this sequence throughout the 60-minute session. Each week add 15 seconds to the run interval until you build it up to 3 minutes. At the same time, you will gradually reduce your walk interval by 30 seconds until it is only 1 minute long, ending up with a 3-minute run and a 1-minute walk. At this point in your training, you will also add a longer weekend workout. On Saturday or Sunday, add on 5-minute increments of time, building to a 90-minute session. This process will take you another 8-10 weeks, until about the middle of August. In mid-August it will be time for you to begin a half-marathon training plan.Phase II (June, July, mid-August): 3 to 4 days a week Week 9: walk 3:00, run 30 seconds for 60 minutes on weekdays; one weekend session of 65 minutes Week 10: walk 3:00run 45 seconds for 60 minutes on weekdays; one weekend session of 70 minutes Week 11: walk 3:00, run 1:00 for 60 minutes on weekdays; one weekend session of 75 minutes Week 12: walk 2:30, run 1:15 for 60 minutes on weekdays; one weekend session of 80 minutes Week 13: walk 2:30, run 1:30 for 60 minutes on weekdays; one weekend session of 85 minutes Week 14: walk 2:00, run 1:45 for 60 minutes on weekdays; one weekend session of 90 minutes Week 15: walk 2:00, run 2:00 for 60 minutes on weekdays; one weekend session of 90 minutes Week 16: walk 1:30, run 2:15 for 60 minutes on weekdays; one weekend session of 90 minutes Week 18: walk 1:30, run 2:30 for 60 minutes on weekdays; one weekend session of 90 minutes Week 19: walk 1:00, run 2:45 for 60 minutes on weekdays; one weekend session of 90 minutes Week 20: walk 1:00, run 3:00 for 60 minutes on weekdays; one weekend session of 90 minutesPhase III is following a 10-to-12 week half-marathon training plan. Beginning the half-marathon training plan in mid-August prepares your for your chosen half-marathon in November, The San Antonio Half-Marathon. You can continue using running and walking as you train for the half or try running continuously and see how you feel. Keep in mind that, especially for your first distance race, it is much more important to cover the mileage, stay injury-free, and finish the race than it is to focus on a time goal. After completing your first half-marathon, you will have acquired the adequate base training to target time. Stockholm Half Marathon is an annual half marathon arranged in Stockholm

Than my first half marathon time and back then I was in the peak of marathon training. Now, if the LA Marathon was a half instead of a full, I might actually feel a little more confident!Post-race, NYCRUNS did a great job. There were heat sheets and medals and you can quickly navigate through all that. There were no bottlenecks between you and the food. I was able grab to a cup of Gatorade, bagel and my bag really quickly. I didn’t stop to enjoy but did notice a station with cream cheese for the bagels, hot chocolate, strawberries, and energy gels. All in all, I was pleased with the race experience and while it lacked the excitement of being able to run into so many people you know from the running community, it was low-key and easy.Tell me about your non-NYRR race experiences in the NYC-area. Throwback to freezing after the 2014 Fred Lebow Manhattan Half!I’m gearing up for my first race of 2017 this weekend at the Fred Lebow Manhattan Half Marathon. Well, technically my first race of 2017 was supposed to be last weekend, but we know how that one went. The weather forecast for Sunday actually looks relatively warm considering the race in the last three years (2014, 2015 and 2016 recaps) were either freezing or cancelled due to snow. I hope I don’t jinx it though. As I am thinking about this weekend’s run, I wanted to share my 2017 race schedule as it stands today. Most of the races for the first half of the year are set but I am currently signed up for 3 marathons within a 1.5 month period in the fall, what was I thinking? I’ll likely end up running the Berlin and NYC Marathons and then hold off on Chicago,

The streets of the Phoenix-Scottsdale-Tempe area — often called the “Valley of the Sun” — are expected to fill with as many as 30,000 runners, walkers and wheelchair athletes in January 2016 with the 13th annual running of the P.F. Chang’s Rock & Roll Arizona Marathon & Half Marathon, which sees more than 15,000 runners cross the finish line in just the half marathon each year. After years of running a point-to-point course that started in downtown Phoenix and finished in nearby Tempe on the campus of Arizona State University, the route was completely redesigned a couple of years ago to feature an out-and-back loop that starts and finishes near the ASU campus, and takes runners through Tempe and north into Scottsdale, where they’ll cross the Salt River twice and head through both Eldorado Park and a long stretch through Papago Park.Like all of the “Rock & Roll”-themed running events, the Arizona race will also feature live bands playing music throughout the course, stationed roughly every other mile, along with cheerleading squads from local high schools and thousands of local spectators out to cheer on runners around the course. The race finish line will lie in the parking lot on the ASU campus, just outside Sun Devil Stadium.Considered an excellent race for first-time marathoners and half-marathoners, thanks to its largely fast and flat course — the race follows a very gradual overall uphill from the start to about the mile 10 marker, and gains only about 150 feet in elevation throughout the first 10 miles of the half marathon — the Rock & Roll Arizona race also features a relay race for two-person teams..
