SO, my problem is that a sculpt i created in sculptris wont import into blender properly. My blender is the newest 2.7something and sculptris is in alpha 6. Blender How to download and Install Sculptris on Windows PC. Click on the Download button to start downloading Sculptris for Windows. Open the .exe installation file in the Downloads folder and double click it. Follow the instructions in the pop-up window to install Sculptris on Windows PC. Now you can open and run Sculptris on Windows PC.

Dont use symmetry. And when you import into Sculptris deactivate "Dont resize" option.what's the problem with symmetry in Sculptris? Does it add in polys?I haven't played with sculptris since it first came out, so just curious.Sculptris haves what I call a "forced symmetry", meaning it will make symmetrical figure if it was not symmetrical before applying the symmetry. In contrast to say, Hexagons symmetry which wont make asymmetrical figure symmetrical so asymmetrical parts of the figure simply wont work in symmetrical way.So as far G3F goes, Sculptris symmetry doesnt add or remove points so geometry count is fine, but as ModernWizard wrote " mesh explodes into triangles [but only on one side]" which is usually sign of broken/changed vertex order. On the other hand, symmetry works fine with G2F so..go figure. :-) Hi, thank you for your explanation -- clearly the standard process of morphing earlier figs in Sculptris won't work. As you said, one can't turn on symmetry, because that apparently plays havoc with G3F's vertex order. So it looks like Sculptris is no good for basic, easy morphing, the way that it was for Genesis 1 and 2. I mean, it'll work on asymmetric details, but not the type of larger work I want to do. That's disappointing, as I found the UI and results very easy and satisfying.Looks like Hexagon is the way to go if I want to try making my own morphs outside of Daz Studio. Blech.--MW

Sculptris ExampleDuring my last post I talked about Paint3D and its uses for 3D games. There were some pros and cons, and it depended on what you wanted out of it. The biggest pro that it seemed to have going for it was the large library of models to access.Today I will talk about 2 other options out there. You have Sculptris and Blender, and each free to use. Sculptris doesn't have near the capabilities as Blender does, but that doesn't mean you should count it out. They could be pair together to create some interesting characters.Let's start with Sculptris. This tool is from Pixologic, the same creator for ZBrush. ZBrush is an incredibly powerful tool that is looked at as the leading software when it comes to 3D sculpting. Sculptris has a lot of the same functions as ZBrush, but scaled back quite a bit with overall function. I currently have Sculptris on my computer and actually enjoy using it. I do plan to upgrade eventually, but it allows me to accomplish what I want. You can sculpt the 3D clay, apply or remove symmetry, and adjust overall triangle counts up or down. It even has the ability to apply 3D paint and texturing to your model and add in some normal mapping for additional surface texture. I'm planning on writing a tutorial on creating a 3d statue/sculpture with multiple models to build up the overall image using only completely free software but thought I'd start with moving models from Maya to Sculptris just as a starter;Find Sculptris for free here: use multiple models? As there isn't the ability to create layers or use zspheres it can be tricky to make a complete figure from 1 base sphere. If you can create full models from the base sphere you get from loading a new scene you'll find it can give you an extremely high poly count.Using multiple models allows you to concentrate and practise if starting out (remember it won't be usable in games/animation really, sculptris is really just an entry level/free flow practise tool but will get you going with digital sculpture/ moving to something like Zbrush). You can take them in to your selected 3d package and put them together like a multi-part action figure to render.Again as a note this is just for practise and for proper modelling use regular 3d techniques or build it in zbrush/ use the GoZ feature in zbrush.I did this in Maya but this should work with all main 3d programs. I'm going to work on doing one for Blender as well for the completely free route (using only open source/free software)Step 1:I only use the 3d programs (I use Maya) to make a very simple base model to work on as if it were a basic trad sculpture armature.
