While playtesting, it will return “Play Test” instead.OrangeGreenworks.activateAchievement('ACHIEVEMENT_NAME');This script call will activate an achievement called ACHIEVEMENT_NAME. While playtesting, it will only display a message on the console indicating that the achievement was activated.VI. Deploy to Steam and test!Once you are satisfied with local testing, you may delete the “steam_appid.tx” file and upload your game to Steam. Hooray! Now as you may have surmised, Achievements need to be set up in Steam and assigned a specific name. Then, you can run scrip commands in your game that call that specific name and as long as you’ve followed these instructions, integration should be active and your game should be able to “talk” to Steam. For example, if you make an achievement on Steam called “ACH_Beat_Level_1”, then performing the script callOrangeGreenworks.activateAchievement('ACH_Beat_Level_1');will prompt the achievement to pop up on Steam and award it to the player’s profile. What do you mean just "Deploy to Steam and test!?"Sorry friends, this guide will not delve into how to upload your game onto Steam or how to set up achievements there because, as with creating a Steam page, I feel there is plenty of documentation out there that will guide you. Figuring those things out was nothing compared to getting integration set up, so if integration is now working for you, you’ve conquered one of the hardest parts. Well done!I believe that most people that end up here have already figured out Steam page publishing and game uploading, so I have decided to keep the scope of this guide focused on specifically Steam Integration. If you're struggling to set achievements up in Steam itself, I highly recommend this AuroDev video that covers it in great detail:How to Add Achievements to Your

2025-03-30Publisher Those Awesome Guys has announced that Valley Peaks, a game released on Steam with "very positive" reviews, has had its upcoming Nintendo Switch port delayed for an indefinite amount of time. Valley Peaks was first announced as part of Nintendo's April 2024 Indie World Showcase, and it was expected to be coming to both PC via Steam and the Nintendo Switch platform. While the indie game was released on Steam this past June, fans looking forward to the Switch version of Valley Peaks will be waiting for an indefinite amount of time. Valley Peaks is a first-person platformer developed by Tub Club and published by Those Awesome Guys, the latter publishing the likes of Move or Die and Monster Prom. Valley Peaks is a cozy platformer that tasks the player with climbing different mountains in the game, each one acting as its own puzzle for the player to solve and place a radio tower on top of. A lot of challenges come from various obstacles like crumbling rocks, spikes, and minecarts, all done in a whimsical art style. All of these aspects have garnered the game good reviews on Steam, sitting comfortably with a "very positive" rating on the...
2025-04-12Borderlands and Civilization publisher 2K Games has quietly done something very cool and good: The company has removed the need to use its 2K PC launcher from all of its games, and sunset the software completely. Suggested ReadingThe Week In Games: A Star Wars Classic Returns & More New ReleasesOffEnglishSuggested ReadingFor many, many years, Steam—Valve’s digital PC store—was the de facto launcher and marketplace for all computer games. But starting around 2019 or so, publishers like EA, 2K, Ubisoft, and Bethesda, all began locking games behind individual (and annoying) launchers. So you’d buy a game on Steam, only to be forced to download and muck around with a separate launcher for that game that would boot up each time you tried to play it via Steam. Some companies just stopped publishing games on Steam completely in an effort to avoid paying Valve a cut of each sale. But more publishers are finally reversing course on all this nonsense, and 2K Games is the latest. On November 18, 2K Games quietly began sunsetting its PC games launcher and removing it entirely from all of its titles. With this change, Bioshock Remastered, Bioshock 2 Remastered, Bioshock Infinite, The Quarry, and Marvel’s Midnight Suns will now all launch directly into the game via Steam with no bullshit steps in between. No more updating a launcher or linking accounts or whatever. You hit play on Bioshock in Steam and that’s that. Some games, like the remastered Mafia Trilogy, will take a bit more work to scrub out the 2K Games launcher. The Borderlands publisher has updated each game’s support page with info on what users will need to do. Additionally, on November 25 the publisher pushed out an update on Steam that fully removed the 2K Games launcher, replacing the folder that contained all of its
