The Passion Translation (Photo: BroadStreet Publishing Group)The Passion Translation (TPT) has been removed from Bible Gateway after coming under criticism. The translation is the work of Brian Simmons, leader of Passion and Fire Ministries, and is published by BroadStreet Publishing Group. They told US magazine Christianity Today that Bible Gateway had "made the disappointing decision to discontinue their license for The Passion Translation". Bible Gateway is a popular online Scripture platform offering 90 versions of the Bible in the English language.BroadStreet said the removal of the TPT translation came into effect last month. "While no explanation was given, BroadStreet Publishing accepts that Bible Gateway has the right to make decisions as they see fit with the platforms they manage," they told Christianity Today magazine in a statement.TPT was released in 2017 and is billed by BroadStreet as "a modern, easy-to-read Bible translation that unlocks the passion of God's heart and expresses his fiery love—merging emotion and life-changing truth."It is popular with charismatics and counts Bill Johnson, senior pastor of Bethel Church in Redding, California, among its fans. In an endorsement on the TPT website, he describes reading the translation as "one of the great new experiences of my life in recent years". Critics, however, have said the TPT should be classed as paraphrasing rather than a translation. Andrew Wilson, a Reformed charismatic who pastors at King's Church London, told the magazine, "There are just too many additions to the text that have no basis in the original—which is fine (sortFuel My Passion – The Passion Translation

The New International Version (NIV) is a completely original translation of the Bible developed by more than one hundred scholars working from the best available Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek texts. The initial vision for the project was provided by a single individual – an engineer working with General Electric in Seattle by the name of Howard Long. Long was a lifelong devotee of the King James Version, but when he shared it with his friends he was distressed to find that it just didn’t connect. Long saw the need for a translation that captured the truths he loved in the language that his contemporaries spoke. For 10 years, Long and a growing group of like-minded supporters drove this idea. The passion of one man became the passion of a church, and ultimately the passion of a whole group of denominations. And finally, in 1965, after several years of preparatory study, a trans-denominational and international group of scholars met in Palos Heights, Illinois, and agreed to begin work on the project – determining to not simply adapt an existing English version of the Bible but to start from scratch with the best available manuscripts in the original languages. Their conclusion was endorsed by a large number of church leaders who met in Chicago in 1966.A self-governing body of fifteen biblical scholars, the Committee on Bible Translation (CBT) was formed and charged with responsibility for the version, and in 1968 the New York Bible Society (which subsequently became the International Bible Society and then Biblica) generously undertook the financial sponsorship of the project. The translation of each book was assigned to translation teams, each made up of two lead translators, two translation consultants, and a stylistic consultant where necessary. The initial translations produced by these teams were carefully scrutinized and revised by intermediate editorialTranslation Philosophy - The Passion Translation

The words can be varied for emphasis.ConclusionIn light of all this, we can see that translating comic books is clearly a complex and tricky operation which can strike a very delicate chord in the mind of the reader. This is because the original work is created in a language, and therefore within a culture, which represents a unique and unrepeatable vision of the world, which is often very different from the target one.It is here that the comic-book translator comes into play, with their professional toolkit containing the experience and knowledge gleaned from a sound linguistic education, as well as obviously a passion for what they do: it is, indeed, impossible to translate comics without knowledge of their specific language and style, and the challenges they pose to translation.Have you drawn the last panel, put down your pencil, and now you don’t know where to get started in translating your comic book? When the Pilgrims arrived in the New World in 1620, they brought along supplies, a consuming passion to advance the Kingdom of Christ, and the Word of God. Clearly, their most precious cargo was the Biblespecifically, the 1599 Geneva Bible. All but forgotten in our day, this version of the Bible was the most widely read and influential English Bible of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. A superb translation, it was the product of the best Protestant scholars of the day and become the Bible of choice for many of the greatest writers and thinkers of that time. Men such as William Shakespeare, John Bunyan, and John Milton used the Geneva Bible in their writings. William Bradford also cited the Geneva Bible in his famous book Of Plymouth Plantation. The Geneva Bible is unique among all other Bibles. It was the first Bible to use chapters and numbered verses and became the most popular version of its time because of the extensive marginal notes. These notes, written by Reformation leaders such as John Calvin, John Knox, Miles Coverdale, William Whittingham, Anthony Gilby, and others, were included to explain and interpret the Scriptures for the common people.
