Although the movie is very unlikely to top Avatar’s phenomenal worldwide gross, which currently stands at $2.92 billion, it is on track to become one of the highest-grossing movies of 2022. That will only be helped by a high level of audience praise that has seen Avatar: The Way of Water’s audience score on Rotten Tomatoes massively improve on its predecessor. For a sequel that comes over a decade after the first movie, there are plenty of ways that Avatar: The Way of Water could have become one of the biggest disasters in cinema history. However, James Cameron has once again defied the odds to create a follow-up movie that is better received by audiences than the original. While critics have not been quite as kind, the audience rating of 94% is a 12% increase on Avatar’s decent 82%. While it is still early days, it seems that Avatar: The Way of Water has pleased the majority of those who have seen it so far. You can see some of the comments here. Avatar 3 Has Already Completed Filming and Has An Unbelievable Runtime 20th Century Studios When it comes to a movie with a budget the size of Avatar: The Way of Water, it would not be unusual for a studio to want to ensure that the film turns a profit before green-lighting further sequels. That is certainly not the way things have gone for what could be James Cameron’s magnum opus, as he has already completed his initial cut of Avatar 3, and it reportedly comes in at an incredible 9 hours in length. Considering one of the only complaints about Avatar: The Way of Water is its 3 hours 12-minute runtime, there is very little chance that the final cut of the third installment will be anywhere near its current reported length. Despite this, James Cameron has apparently said he wants to complete the whole VFX package for the entire movie before starting to cut it down. Whether this indicates that he will want to release some epic extended cut later is something only Cameron knows right now. What is clear is that Avatar: The Way of Water is doing enough to allow Cameron to continue on his path to at least Avatar 5, and his contingency plan to end the franchise with Avatar 3 if things didn’t go well for his first sequel seems like it won’t be needed. That means Cameron has two years to complete Avatar 3 and get it cut down to a reasonable length before it hits theaters on December 20, 2024. If all goes according to plan, this will lead to Avatar 4 arriving on December 18, 2026, and Avatar 5 landing on December 22, 2028. How long is Avatar? Title: Alfred Hitchcock once said that the length of a film “should be directly related to the endurance of the human bladder.” James Cameron did not get the memo. Haven’t we suffered enough?Apparently not, since there are rumours circulating that James Cameron wants to release a 9-hour-long director's cut of Avatar 3 on Disney+ after the theatrical release.Yep, you read that correctly – 9 butt-bruising hours. You really wish that Cameron could take Alfred Hitchcock’s advise when the late filmmaker stated that the length of a film “should be directly related to the endurance of the human bladder.”Jeff Sneider first revealed on his podcast, The Hot Mic, that Cameron had a nine-hour cut of Avatar 3 back in December. Now, he has revealed on a new episode of the podcast what Cameron plans to do with it.“Months ago, I put out a rumour about James Cameron having a nine-hour cut of Avatar 3 that he wanted to finish the visual effects for,” Sneider. “A lot of people were like, ‘Why would the studio pay for that? Why would he insist on doing visual effects if then he’s gonna cut the movie?’ The idea is that Cameron would do all the visual effects for his nine-hour cut of Avatar 3 and then release it on Disney+ as a limited series after the theatrical cut is released.”Oh, good.Granted, this news is to be filed under ‘Rumour that should hopefully not materialize – pretty pretty please’, but the snag is that Sneider is a long-time scooper with a solid track record. So, it can’t be completely dismissed. And whether he's making films or delivering awards speeches, Cameron does have a tendency for not thinking about his audience’s bladders. Or patience. To further put this news into context, the 2009 original was 2 hours and 41 minutes, while last year’s Avatar: The Way of Water ran for 3 hours and 12 minutes. Chances are that the theatrical version of the yet untitled Avatar 3 will be, once again, over the 3-hour mark.James Cameron has already hinted about what to expect with the third chapter of his impressive-style-over-completely-barren-substance Smurfs-meets Pocahontas-in-spaaaaace saga. The director has confirmed we will be getting a few new tribes added into the story, including the fire Na'vi, and we know that Sam Worthington's Jake Sully will not be narrating, but rather Jake's son Lo'ak, played by Britain Dalton, who will take the voiceover duties.Avatar 4 and 5 are both scheduled for 2026 and 2028 releases respectively, with the fourth instalment already partially shot.Avatar 3 is tentatively scheduled to open in theatres on 20 December 2024.

With it. One important question here is, like the great leonopteryx and fanged mongrel, will we get any sea creature that the Na’vi will bond with? There will be plenty of new creatures to marvel at, but we’re yet unsure which ones can form a Tsaheylu (bond) with the Na’vi. Still, the two most important sea creatures to be featured in Avatar 2 are the tulkun and the ilu. Member of the Metkayina clan with a tulkun The tulkun is similar to a whale and shows off the mere vastness of Pandora’s reef habitat. Measuring 300 meters in length, they’re known to be powerful, sentient creatures. In the film’s teaser, this creature was also seen marching into battle side by side with the Na’vi.The ilu, on the other hand, is inspired by the direhorse. You may also recognize the playful creatures from the Flight of Passage ride at Walt Disney World. We’re yet to learn what role they will play in the movie. Avatar 2 Needed The Best Start Possible Avatar: The Way of Water's expensive budget means it needs a strong opening, as James Cameron has been allotted roughly $1 billion to create the Avatar sequels. Cameron has been overtly transparent about Avatar: The Way of Water's reliance on a record-breaking box office performance for the sequel to be successful. While there are concerns it won't meet this lofty expectation, Cameron's last two movie releases both went on to become the highest-grossing movie of all time. Cameron has acknowledged the sequel's lengthy runtime but also assertively expressed expectations that audiences see the movie a second time in order to recoup some of the massive investment. Avatar 2's Reaction Could Still Change As promising as the first reactions to Avatar: The Way of Water are, the overall reception could still change with time and subsequent viewings. As was the case with James Cameron's immaculate 3D innovations in the first Avatar, if this same level of visual splendor is recreated in Avatar: The Way of Water, this may distract viewers from apparent story flaws. Beneath Avatar's stunning exterior lies a derivative narrative that adheres too closely to influences like Dances with Wolves. Further, given the returns of Quaritch and the greedy Resources Development Administration, the key conflict in Avatar: The Way of Water could too closely resemble that of the first film. While an Avatar plot retread would be unwelcome, Avatar: The Way of Water's first reactions indicate audiences will be able to fully immerse themselves in Pandora again. Part of what makes Avatar compelling is the care and detail given to the world and culture of the Na'vi, specifically the world-building surrounding the Omaticaya clan. Even if Avatar: The Way of Water is somewhat of a rehash, seeing this same focus on the Metkayina clan will be refreshing. While it remains to be seen what the enduring reception to Avatar: The Way of Water will be, its strong first reactions are a reassuring, albeit predictable outcome for James Cameron's latest epic. Save, I had to keep running back and forth to change avatars and then check my appearance. This is a world to visit if you want to play as a character, but not if you are looking for a more generic avatar to represent your real-world self in the game.Mids AVA WorldMids AVA WorldThis VRChat avatar world has a large collection of anime avatars and a selection of others characters from popular shows and games. Kirito from Sword Art Online, Pikachu, Link, Stitch, from Lilo and Stitch, and Samurai Megazord from Power Rangers are all present. I was delighted to find Clementine from The Walking Dead here, as this is one of my all-time favorite PC games. As well as normal-sized avatars, there is a collection of some of the most enormous avatars I’ve ever seen in VRChat. Megazord, for example, is available in three different sizes, the largest of which towers above the world when you change into him. This one definitely made my favorites list, but I’ll have to be careful which worlds I use it on, as he needs a lot of space. This is a really well laid-out VRChat avatar world, allowing you to easily see what is on offer, and you’re not going to miss picking up any of your favorites. There’s also an enormous mirror that runs the entire length of the main room that can be toggled on and off by the long blue button at the base of the wall. This is a
